German Higher Education System

Aptitude Test (TestAS)

If you are planning to do Undergraduate course in Germany, it is advisable to appear for TestAS. It’s a three parts aptitude test; first the on screen language test, second the core test and finally the subject-specific test modules. Universities use these test reports to assess you and approve your admissions. It is not compulsory but has tremendous advantages while you plan for German Universities. This helps you get admission to a good public university as well as chances of scholarship are high.

Admission to a German University

You need an admission to German university for Bachelor’s or Master’s program, you need to have good academic score. Apart from Academics you need to show financial capability of spending a minimum of 8700 Euros per year for your living expenses in Germany.

German Skills

It is important to have German language skills if you are applying for German universities even it is not compulsory for programs taught in English language.

Student Visa

You need a Student Visa to enter Germany and subsequently need a resident permit to stay and study there. Health Insurance - You need to have a Student health insurance while applying for German universities. You need to show your Health insurance while applying for resident permit too.

Admissions Process for German Universities

You can apply to most of the programs offered by German universities apart from the courses like Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry which are restricted courses and available for domestic students or Euro Zones with State Examination.

Entry requirements

Overall GPA 2.75

Master's Program

  • 15 & 16 year Education with 75% or 2.75 GPA.
  • IELTS - 6.5 overall or TOEFL - 85points (IBT)

MBA

  • IELTS - 6.5 or TOEFL - 85points (IBT)
  • Work Experience 2 - 3 year at managerial level GMAT - 550
  • GMAT - 550 (exceptionally required)

Dates & Deadlines

For winter semester enrolment:

  • Application period: from around the end of May to 15 July
  • You get the acceptance letters of your admission in August or September.

For summer semester enrolment:

  • Application period: from 1st week of December to mid January
  • Acceptance letters are sent out in February / March.

Getting Germany Student Visa

You need to apply for a Student Visa so you can stay in Germany to study in a recognized university or college.

Applying for a German Student Visa:

Mandatory Document for Academic interview:

  • Acceptance / admission letter from a German Academic Institution
  • Bonafide letter from the institution in India for students, Academic records, mark sheets, pass certificates, diploma certificates if any.
  • German language proficiency certificate or a document of learning German language in a German institute.
  • Certificate of your health insurance coverage
  • Proof of your financial resources
  • Curriculum vitae, experience letter (if applicable)

Residence permit:

You have to apply for a residence permit at the Alien Registration Office in your university town within your first three months in Germany.

  • Registration Confirmation letter from the Residents’ Registration Office
  • Document proving private or public health insurance coverage
  • Student ID from your German university
  • Valid passport and current visa, if you have one
